My Wife Wants a Dog

After getting married and having a honeymoon in Hawaii, and wife and I moved into the Sloane Residences condo in Singapore. This was the start of our new lives, and we were going to be going through all of the trials and tribulations that were going to be coming with marriage, from having kids, to even deciding if we want kids. This was stuff that we didn’t want to really think about at that moment, and just wanted to enjoy ourselves in our new condo. There is one thing my wife wanted to have now, and that was a dog.

My wife loved dogs and wanted to have one as soon as we got to Singapore. I don’t have anything against dogs or pets, but I don’t really want one. They’re a big responsibility to take care of, they require attention, affection, and sometimes medical expenses. They’re a bit like having a kid, except a dog can be a little bit more obedient. My wife kept trying to convince me that it would be a good idea to have a dog, but I wasn’t going along with it, especially since I knew that I would get stuck with half of the responsibility caring for it.

I was able to talk my wife down to getting a house plant. It’s not quite as responsive as a dog, but it still needs care. A little water, some sunlight, and it’s pretty much good to go. She can even talk to it and sing to it. My wife still wanted that dog, but this will have to curb her urges for now. The plant is a bonus for me, because it won’t wake up in the middle of the night and start barking or howling at the moon like a dog probably would.
