Some things started disappearing from our neighborhood. I remember the first incidents. The laser light holiday decorations started disappearing from lawns during the holidays. Then, in the spring, a few lawnmowers, trimmers and blowers began disappearing. Solar lights, lawn decorations, bicycles and things like that were being stolen too. Only neighbors with cameras were not affected by the annoying crime spree. We got information on a home security system after our neighbor’s house was broken into and his television and some other items were stolen.
We decided to get a complete security system that included perimeter, fire and video surveillance protection. The monthly monitoring fee is affordable, and the peace of mind the system gives is worth a lot more. We have not had any issues since we had the system installed. Shortly before we got the alarm system installed, there was a woman who knocked on our door asking to use our telephone. I would not let her inside, and she was very nervous. I told her I would bring my phone out or make the call for her. She told me to forget about it and that she would just walk home.
I was very suspicious because she was acting weird. That is the only way I can describe it. She may have been legitimate, but I seriously doubt it. I think she was trying to see what we had inside our house. Our neighbor that had his stuff stolen said he let someone use his phone a few weeks before he got burglarized. I do not think that is a coincidence. After all, there are very few people who do not have a cell phone nowadays. I believe our alarm system and cameras now act as a strong deterrent. I think these criminals hit areas they know are easy targets.
